An update!

On Sunday the 4th I met Lil BUB again!!! She seemed even more sweet and adorable this time. Her dude seemed more relaxed, too. Lastly her jaw growth seemed smaller, I hope that means the antibiotics are working! She made BUB noises in my ear and my head nearly exploded.

Since the BUB event was in Dayton, 3.5 hours from me, I decided to get a hotel room and drive down Saturday. I stayed at the same hotel as BUB, the Crowne Plaza Dayton, but didn’t see her or her dude. The hotel itself was very disappointing for many small reasons. One or two on their own wouldn’t have been bad, but all of them together left me feeling as though it wasn’t worth the $145 paid for one night (including taxes and $15 for valet parking.) The staff was super awesome, from the front desk, to valet to the maintenance guy, so it wasn’t their fault at all.

Among some of the issues with the room/hotel:
-Dusty lampshades and a gum package behind one of the nightstands
-The lotion toiletry was cleared used
-The floor lamp in the corner of the room was unplugged and didn’t even have a lightbulb
-The wallpaper in the bathroom was very poorly repaired
-The window heating/cooling had black-painted duct tape covering up the controls
-The other thermostats in the room didn’t seem to have any effect on the temperature in the room
-The guys in room 810 woke me up at 1:55A and I was awake until 4A, after the time change (I was awake 3 hours)
-The $17.50 (with tip) burger I ordered had no flavor and wasn’t cooked correctly (I ordered mid-rare and it was more medium-well.)
-I’m 99% sure valet dented the chrome piece running along the bottom of my driver-side rear window
So yeah, I won’t be staying at the Crowne Plaza Dayton ever again.

While in Dayton I visited the Packard Museum (Dayton,) Westcott House (Springfield) and the FLW Medical Building (Dayton.)

I also stopped at the Air Force Museum then realized I had less than an hour before hotel check-in, so I left.

And I’m spent.

A 2nd Post?!

I’ve had a relatively slow last couple of months. Work is work, which means it ebbs and flows. This week I haven’t really done shit, but last week I traveled to Monaca, PA (just outside of Pittsburgh) to retreive assets from a terminated employee. That was awkward enough but then the guy asked me out after I collected his phone and badge. Super awkward!

I met Lil BUB on the 6th of October and it was amazing. She’s so teeny! I cried a little when I met her, but I full on bawled during some parts of the presentation. I also cried a little when I saw her for the first time. A guy from Cleveland.com recorded my meeting her and interviewed me afterward, but it wasn’t posted on the site. Thank the Gods because I cried the entire time. It was a great experience and I’m meeting her again on the 4th of November (next weekend!) I’ve decided that if she’s within an 8 hours drive (one-way) I am going to travel to meet her. If I ever get over my fear of flying (doubtful) I’ll attend all of her meet and greets! Yay BUB!

The Gary Numan concert was canceled last minute because his tour bus hit and killed a pedestrian in downtown Cleveland.

Not much else is going on, really. Both cars are running great, finally, and I’m looking at a 2019 Jetta to lease for 4 years. If the dealer will write all of the promised terms into the lease I’ll buy it. Those terms include not being penalized for going over the 7.500 miles per year so long as I purchase the car, the upgraded rims not being an additional charge when I purchase the car, the first 3 services (oil changes, mostly) being free and something else I can’t currently remember (it’s all written down somewhere.) I hope they do so because the terms are amazing (zero down and only $225/mo.) It’s habanero orange metallic with black interior and it’s a true 6-speed manual!!! The shit thing is I can’t get the manual transmission on any of the better models, so I’m stuck with the S. I am able, however, to get the safety package for only $400 extra which includes cross traffic indicators (backup camera and a 7″ touchscreen are standard,) blind spot indicators and adaptive cruise control. But I can’t get leather, heated seats, sunroof, navigation, etc. Even the base model is nicely appointed so it won’t be awful. The 2019 is a completely new body style that uses the tried and true TSI engine. So we’ll see if I buy it.

I purchased a Polaroid SX-70 camera off CL about a month ago. The seller is the original owner and had the paperwork with the camera, plus a bunch of neat accessories which are brand new. I sent the camera out for repair to Retrospekt and just received notice that it’s fixed! My SX-70 is the Alpha 1 SE which is black plastic with black leather. I had them replace the worn out black leather with the more traditional brown since that’s what I think of when seeing an SX-70. They completely disassembled the camera, cleaned it, fixed it and replaced the skins for $175! I’m going to take it with me to meet BUB and hopefully her Dude will let me get a photo of her. No flash is allowed but it’ll be bright enough in the room that it should turn out OK.

That’s it, I suppose.

I Have Returned!

Oh hey, I’m back.  For some reason GoDaddy keeps deleting my site and I have to start from scratch.  It’s paid every month via autopay so I have no idea why my site sometimes disappears.  Regardless, here I am again!

I’ve been traveling a bit, and hope to do more this Autumn.  Another trip to Fallingwater, of course, then to Centralia, PA and NYC.  I also have to visit WV this year, including the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum.  Busy, busy, busy.

Zippy is being a dick and constantly needing repairs.  One week alone I spent almost $800 on struts and a new flex pipe.  My mechanic gives me deals on labor and parts so it isn’t as though he’s charging me ridiculous amounts, plus I can buy parts and he’ll install them for me.  The struts alone were over $300 from Summit Racing because I pissed around and didn’t buy the cheaper ones when they were available ($120 for the pair.)  Then, a couple weeks later, Zippy started leaking coolant due to a bad turbo coolant line that was another $100 for repair and part.  Ugh!  Frank, on the other hand, is reliable as ever and has only needed a new oil pan this year.

Someone removed the brace holding my front porch stairs to the porch which caused them to “break” when I was going to my car for work last Wednesday.  I called the police and filed a report after the landlord told me it was done intentionally.  I checked my security cameras but the night vision isn’t the best and the window was covered in water from days of rain.  I ordered better cameras that will arrive today or tomorrow, so there’s that.  Then, Friday night, someone moved the gnomes on my front porch; the froggy and sultry gnome switched places.  I hope they continue doing this shit after I have better cameras, whomever they may be.  I also signed up for a concealed carry class so I’ll have a gun, too.  Terrifying thought, I know.

I still love my job no matter how much I bitch sometimes.  I’ve been at the same place for almost 3 years and am very fortunate to have the job.  I’ve earned my job after spending many years in the trenches of IT help desk hell.  Many days Zippy is my office, which is all right with me.

The Shelby is fine, fat (13 pounds) and bad as always.

I joined a CSA farm share thing in June and it’s wonderful.  Once a week, typically on Wednesdays, I pick up a delicious bunch of fresh produce.  I’ve received a lot of squash lately and realized spaghetti squash is fucking delicious.

I stopped eating meat about 8 months ago and rarely cheat.  I’ve discovered Swenson’s Veggieboy is freaking delicious!  My go-to place is Ardick Seafood in Lorain.  The food is delicious and the prices are very reasonable.  Their house chowder is delicious!  In addition to my seafood staples Chinese food has become something I very much enjoy.  At least 2 times a week I have fresh chow mein noodles from a little market in North Olmsted.  It’s so easy to make them at home and super cheap!  I get three meals for $4 and can add veggies from my farm share!

Oh also, I GET TO MEET LIL BUB ON 6/OCT!!!  I purchased the full even ticket which means I get to pet Lil Bub, get a photo with her and her Dude, and a bunch of other cool stuff.  It’s essentially a day with Bub, food and mimosas!  Well worth the $134 price, and it’s in Rocky River which is only 20 minutes from home!  I am ridiculously excited.

I splurged a few months back and purchased an Instax 300 Wide camera and an Instax Mini 9 camera.  The Wide had quite the learning curve, especially considering the cost of film, but I think I’ve figured it out.  The Mini 9 is more of a novelty and I don’t think I’ll use it very much once I run out of film (which is also expensive.)  I do enjoy the look of the Wide photos, though, and will probably use it on a relatively regular basis.  I finally bit the bullet and bought a Lensbaby Composer and some optics; soft focus opticfisheye optic, plastic optic, single glass optic, pinhole/zone plate optic, and creative aperture set, all of which I love!  I scored them on CL for a steal so I don’t feel too badly about spending the money.  Besides, photography is something I enjoy so I shouldn’t feel badly no matter what I spend, right?

There’s a Gary Numan concert on the 24th @ HOB that I’ll attend, scored a ticket for $18 including all fees from Groupon!

That’s all for now.
